The HORNETS MFC flying sites
We currently have four flying sites around the Island.
Here are our Powered Flying fields and below the gliding fields:
BEMBRIDGE POWER SITE
The club has an excellent flying site for powered models at Bembridge Airport. Situated well away from full size aircraft, a large take off patch is surrounded by forgiving long grass for those 'emergency' landings. We park on the grass by the Control Tower and walk to the patch. The club owes a great debt of thanks to the support of the landowner Mr John Taylor. Our activities also conform fully to CAA demands.
Flying Times
Saturday and Sunday mornings, 10am to 1pm.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, 6:00pm to sunset.
Directions
Member instructions: Park on the grass next to the tower and display the model club badge in your car window. Check it is ok to fly with the tower staff and collect the radio set and first aid box. Wait until there are at least two members present before flying.
Guests/Visitors must contact the club via e-mail or telephone for instructions before coming to the site. All Guests/Visitors should park by the tower at all times.
GREEN LANE SITE
This site can be used most of the year round and is mainly suited to sports type of aircraft as the surface is rougher than Bembridge. Safety dictates that 2 members should be present but the site can be used during the day. Cars can be parked on the grass at the side of the road displaying the club badge.
BETTY HAUNT LANE SITE
Betty Haunt Lane flying sites for gliding and electric models.
LIMERSTONE DOWN SITE
Limmerstone Down flying sites for slope soaring.
