The Glover Family Models

Picture taken a few years ago. The old guy is older, the little guy is now the big guy and the girl on the end is doing things with real planes including flying them. Planes are Amy's Gentle Lady with Cox power, her plan built Piper Cub with MVVS diesel and our trusty Fun Fly on which Amy and Ben learned to fly. It was very cold!

A selection of pictures from the albums of Guy, Amy and Ben Glover

Guy Glovers first plane was a Mercury Marvin control line plane fitted with a Frog 150. It was built for him by his father for Christmas day in 1964. By Boxing day it was a thousand balsa pieces in a nylon bag but it planted the seed of a hobby which as lasted to this day. If you look on the oldies page you will see a couple of photos from school and college days, the black and white one by Ian Nelson, school pal, best friend, fellow aeromodeller and a far more competent flier than me. Between us we kept Ashton Model Shop (now gone) in business for years. We were into control line in a big way, scale, stunt, rat racing, combat and goodyear were all great fun. Funny though, in those days we never ran silencers and no one ever complained and my ETA .29 was VERY noisy. Next 2 photos show Ian with Tomboy trainer many years ago and a collection of our control line planes from school days. The Buffalo was Ians and if my memory serves me right it had a PAW 19 diesel power, the Mosquito was mine and flew lovely on 2 Frog 150 diesels (both built from Aeromodeller plans) and the profile plane was a Viper kit.

I was bought a MacGregor single channel bang bang radio one Christmas (27mhz superhet) which cost £32 new at the time and made a Tyro with ED racer 2.46 power. My trip into radio control had started! I won't bore the reader with more twaddle except to say I have raced model boats in London and model cars all over the country becoming British Champion twice but I always end up back with balsa wood and the sky - I put it down to the terrific people you meet in this hobby.
The following pictures are ones you may find interesting and are in no particular order. First picture is my Laser 62 powered Bowmans Super Fli at an Old Warden 4 stroke day. I was very chuffed as Neil Tidey himself launched the model for me and we had a great day - until I had a glitch and the model was lost. The engine sustained damage which Neil insisted of repairing for me in his tent then and there. The second picture shows a Ken Stokes Mirus - very quick! and a Cranfield A1 with OS 4 stroke power. Both exciting models in their own way.

Next pictures show Ben holding the Hangar 9 Aresti 40 with MDS 48 power. This is a superb ARTF which flies as if on rails. We have since fitted an ASP 52 four stroke and it is even better. Roll on a Saito 72! Slope soarer is a Gigalo which also has a power fuselage with .10 power which is really good cheap fun.

First picture is our trusty FunFly on which Amy and Ben learned to fly. Still going in someone elses hands. She has flown with MDS.28, MDS.38 and Thunder Tiger GP.42. What a great all round plane. Amy's 72" Ben Buckle Quaker Flash with Modela 2cc diesel. This flies so beautifully on a summer evening - on tick over the tank lasts for ages - Just great!

Amys Mongrel built from a plan with TT GP.42 power. She modified the plan and the plane is very light. Flies superbly. On the other hand my little President bipe with MDS.28 just about stays airbourne at flat out throttle. Carved out of lead!!

Planes for my Wren 54 turbine. The first one is a flying test bed for the engine from Wren plans. Still flying with another Wren in it. Mick Reeves Super Reaper is super for our patch. Very fast yet takes off easily. Both planes get the pulse racing. My 3 year trip into turbines has now ended. It is ticked off my 'to do' list and was great fun.

More to come!
